Patagonia, the very tip of South America shared by Chile and Argentina, is the land of glaciers and windswept pampas, awe-inspiring hikes and inspiringly awesome lodges.

Accessed by flights to Punta Arenas, Chile’s famous Torres del Paine Park is a must-see, with Tierra Patagonia and Awasi Patagonia offering the newest high-end lodge accommodations. The lakeside Singlular Patagonia is another fabulous lodge located close to Puerto Natales.

On the Argentine side, the small resort town of El Calafate is an easy flight from Buenos Aires, and the Relais & Châteaux gem Eolo Lodge is ideally located near the Perrito Moreno Glacier. The 17-suite lodge is an oasis of simple elegance, offering expansive views of mountain peaks and emerald-green lakes. Stays at Eolo are often combined with nights at Estancia Christina. To the north lies the hiking capital of El Chalten, home of the famous rock towers of Cerro Fitz Roy. Los Cerros is a lovely lodge well suited to the multitude of day hikes in the area, and offers access to the Viedma Glacier. Watch for guanacos, foxes, and llamas.
